What is a Butterfly Click Test?

A Butterfly Click Test is a fixed-duration mouse CPS test that measures accepted primary-button mouse clicks during the selected duration. ClickMetrik supports 5, 10, and 15-second tests, with 10 seconds as the default, and reports Average CPS alongside timing-related metrics.

Butterfly clicking generally refers to alternating two fingers on the same mouse button. A browser receives click events but cannot observe the fingers, finger alternation, or physical motion that produced them. ClickMetrik therefore cannot prove that a Butterfly clicking technique or two-finger alternation was used, judge game skill or legality, or act as a hardware diagnostic.

How to take the Butterfly Click Test

  1. Choose 5, 10, or 15 seconds.
  2. Choose Single Test or Best of 5.
  3. Press the mode-specific Start button.
  4. Click inside the test area with the primary button of a physical mouse.
  5. The first accepted click starts the timer and counts.
  6. Continue until the selected duration ends.
  7. Review the result, History, and Personal Best.

In Best of 5, manually start the next round after each completed round. The series summary appears only after all five rounds finish.

New users should start with Single Test at 10 seconds.

Single Test

One manually armed round produces one complete result. History and Personal Best are isolated in the Single Test duration bucket.

Best of 5

Complete five full rounds at the same selected duration. Every round starts manually, configuration stays locked between rounds, and the final summary appears only after round five. An interruption discards the unfinished series.

How to read your Butterfly CPS result

Total Clicks is the number of accepted primary-button clicks in the selected duration.

Average CPS = accepted primary-button clicks ÷ configured seconds. The configured duration is the formal denominator, not the elapsed time from the first accepted click to the last. There is no multiplier, bonus, rank, or grade.

68 accepted clicks in 10 seconds = 6.80 Average CPS.

Rapid Interval Count

Counts adjacent accepted-click intervals where the interval is greater than or equal to 0 ms and less than or equal to 100 ms. Both 0 ms and 100 ms are included; 101 ms is not.

It is not the click count: n accepted clicks create at most n − 1 adjacent intervals. The inclusive 100 ms threshold is a ClickMetrik product definition, not a count of alternating fingers, proof of Butterfly technique, or a double-click, debounce, hardware, game, medical, or anti-cheat standard.

Two accepted clicks at the same timestamp create one 0 ms adjacent interval. That interval counts as rapid, while Consistency and Interval Variation remain unavailable when their formal calculation cannot be completed.

Compare results like for like: keep the same duration and variant when comparing Rapid Interval Count. It is a count, not a rate, so a 5-second Single Test and a 15-second Best of 5 round are different conditions.

How to interpret the timing metrics

Peak 1s CPS
The highest one-second accepted click rate during the test. It is not the overall Average CPS.
Average Interval
The mean time between adjacent accepted clicks. It displays a dash (—) when fewer than two clicks are available.
Interval Variation
Population standard deviation of adjacent intervals ÷ their mean × 100. It requires at least three accepted clicks and a positive mean interval. Lower values mean this recording's intervals were closer; higher values mean they differed more. It does not represent accuracy, technique, health, or hardware quality.
Consistency
The existing bounded timing-stability score. It is related to Interval Variation but is not the same metric, rank, or grade. It displays a dash when unavailable.
First-half and Second-half CPS
Describe accepted click rates in the two halves of the test.
Per-second chart
Shows accepted click counts for each configured second.

Single Test vs Best of 5

A completed Single Test shows every formal Single result field and saves one compact result. History and Personal Bests are isolated by variant and duration.

Best of 5 requires five complete rounds at one selected duration. Each round starts manually and shows its CPS, Total Clicks, and Rapid Interval Count. The final summary reports Average CPS, Best CPS, Worst CPS, Standard Deviation, and Range. Nothing is saved as a final series before round five, and interrupting an unfinished series discards it.

Five rounds produce: 6.00 CPS, 7.00 CPS, 8.00 CPS, 7.00 CPS, 6.00 CPS.

Limits, comfort, and privacy

The page can report accepted primary-click count, Average CPS, Peak 1s CPS, Average Interval, Rapid Interval Count, Interval Variation, Consistency, first/second-half rates, per-second counts, and a five-round CPS summary. It cannot verify fingers used, alternation, physical Butterfly motion, technique authenticity, game skill or legality, cheating, macros, automation, debounce, missed or double clicks, mouse faults, complete hardware latency, or a hand, muscle, nerve, or medical condition.
